We even prioritised a good sound environment in the stairwells as this is where we practice walking with many patients before they go home – we are completely depending on well-functioning communication then!”

Marie Abrahamsson, Group Leader

Beautifully located amongst the greenery

Amongst the lush greenery of Pålsjö Forrest sits Pålsjö Park short-term accommodation for rehabilitation which includes 54 refurbished units with 66 beds and a new building called Pålsjö Park elderly home with 60 units. The two-story buildings make up approximately 10 000m2. Great care has been taken to elegantly link the older building with the new as well as to create an energy-efficient facility. The energy consumption is expected to be 30 percent lower than what is required according to Swedish regulations.

Advanced technical solutions

Pålsjö Park is somewhat of a predecessor in terms of using new smart technology in health care. The senior residents have bracelets that automatically unlock their own door when they approach. A transmitter is placed in the building to notify staff if a confused patient is wandering off the premises. Various smart systems are used to minimise many of the high risk situations that may otherwise occur. Acoustic ceilings have been installed throughout the premises making the sound environment comfortable and soft. This in turn facilitates conversations around the dinner tables, even for those with hearing impairments that otherwise may struggle to distinguish speech from background noise. A good sound environment has also been prioritised in areas such as training- and rehab facilities and the staff room. Even the furniture and wall decorations have been chosen based on their acoustic properties.

Efficient use of the stairwells

Many rehab guests need to practice walking before they move home again and some of this training takes place in the stairwells. Although it is of outmost importance, for both staff and patients, that they can speak uninterrupted during these training sessions, stairwells with long reverberation times make this almost impossible. Pålsjö Park has solved this by adding acoustic ceilings in these areas as well and they are extremely satisfied with the results.
