I experienced true silence for the first time when I was 26. I was living on an island and a hurricane was expected. Once we had made all our preparations I sat outside and waited, and all of a sudden everything went quiet. No animal noise, no rustling leaves, no wind, but absolute silence. That was a very special experience, and since then I have been very conscious of all the sound that surround us every day.

When I started working at Ecophon in 2008, I was given the opportunity to discover what sound really does to you and how much influence this can have on you in your day-to-day life. I have learnt a lot since then.  We don’t realise that in many school buildings the acoustics are not very good, and how this affects the users. If we can provide a better sound environment in education, this will have a positive effect on learning, teaching and the health of the children and teachers.

Looking at how much difference we can make in projects, new builds and renovation, supported by international studies and always learning from each real-life example, I feel proud that I can make a small contribution to this.
