Enhancing patient care through acoustic design at Arrowe Park

With a £28 million investment in its Urgent Care and A&E departments, Arrowe Park Hospital has significantly elevated its approach to patient care. A key component of this transformation was the strategic integration of acoustic solutions – proven to positively influence patient recovery and overall wellbeing.

Acoustics played a vital role throughout the project, with tailored treatments applied to both clinical and non-clinical spaces. In clinical environments, Ecophon Hygiene Advance™ A was selected for its exceptional cleanability and resilience against daily disinfection using strong chemicals. Its high sound absorption ratings (Class A or B) ensure that treatments are conducted in a discreet and confidential manner, preserving patient dignity and comfort.

In non-clinical areas, acoustic considerations were equally important. On the top floor, Ecophon Combison™ Uno A was installed in offices adjacent to family rooms to enhance speech privacy and reduce sound transmission. Ecophon Advantage™ A was used in standard offices and corridors, contributing to a quieter and more focused working environment.

The overall design incorporated a variety of acoustic ceiling solutions, each chosen to meet specific clinical requirements while ensuring long-term durability. This holistic acoustic strategy not only supports better communication and privacy but also fosters a more healing and respectful atmosphere for patients and staff alike.
