East Calder Primary School by NORR architects has received multiple awards, including the DfE Education Estates award and project of the year at Learning Places Scotland 2025. The school delivers a richly stimulating learning environment contained within a compact, dynamic triangular form derived directly from its site, with the striking entrance prow being south facing to reduce solar gain.

The interior learning spaces have multiple access points, without doors, creating a light, free flowing collaborative approach to learning. Richard McKenzie of RMP acousticians incorporated a wide range of Ecophon acoustic solutions to ensure the acoustic challenges of this design concept successfully met acoustic standards.

Designed to be compact, memorable and dynamic, the school provides a strong, yet welcoming civic presence, combined with a rich, interesting, light-filled interior enhanced by Ecophon Solo™ baffles.
