Four children and an adult are in a bright classroom. One child writes on a whiteboard, two watch, and one sits on a chair. The adult observes from a nearby table by large windows with a cityscape outside.

Lošbates School – designed for learning and community life

The new Lošbates Primary School in Louňovice is one of the most significant educational projects completed in the Czech Republic in recent years. Developed through a collaboration between four municipalities, the school was created to provide a modern learning environment while also serving as a meeting place for the local community.

The building concept is based on the winning design by the Canadian architectural studio Pelletier de Fontenay, which was subsequently developed in collaboration with the Czech practice SOA architekti.

Located on the edge of a forest, the campus has been designed as an open learning landscape that extends beyond traditional classrooms. Informal learning areas, shared spaces and outdoor environments support flexible teaching methods and encourage interaction between students, teachers and visitors. The design also strengthens the connection between the school and the surrounding natural landscape.

Creating a high-quality indoor environment was a key objective throughout the project. Alongside daylight, materials and spatial planning, acoustics were carefully considered from the earliest design stages to support concentration, communication and wellbeing.

Ecophon Focus™ E in white was installed throughout most classrooms, providing effective sound absorption while maintaining the clean architectural expression of the interiors. The ceiling system also allows seamless integration of lighting, ventilation and other building services.

In corridors and the sports hall, Ecophon Saga™ was selected to complement the project's material palette. The wood-inspired finish adds warmth and character to these shared spaces while contributing to a consistent architectural identity across the campus.

Together, the acoustic solutions help create an environment that supports learning, collaboration and community life.
