Improving acoustic comfort at O'Bourpif restaurant

At O'Bourpif, a busy Parisian bistro, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere has always been central to the dining experience. However, the restaurant's traditional interior, featuring mirrors, wooden furniture, parquet flooring and a bar counter, also created a highly reflective acoustic environment. As a result, noise levels became a challenge for both guests and staff.

According to the restaurant owner, the issue was beginning to affect the customer experience: "We had lost some customers because, although the place was warm and welcoming, it was extremely noisy." For the team working in the restaurant every day, the impact was equally significant. Constant background noise made communication more difficult and contributed to fatigue during busy service periods.

To improve acoustic comfort while preserving the character of the bistro, 15 white Ecophon Solo™ Circle acoustic rafts were installed throughout the dining area. The suspended rafts provide Class A sound absorption, helping to reduce reverberation and improve speech intelligibility without requiring a full suspended ceiling.

The circular design integrates naturally with the interior, while the light-reflective finish helps maintain a bright and inviting atmosphere. The solution allowed the restaurant to improve acoustic performance without changing the look and feel that customers appreciate.

Installation was completed in a single morning outside service hours, allowing the restaurant to remain open throughout the process. The owner was particularly pleased with both the efficiency of the installation and the immediate results: "I was really dealing with professionals. The installation took just one morning, and I am very satisfied with the result."

The difference was noticeable almost immediately. Communication became easier for staff, daily work became less demanding, and guests could enjoy conversations more comfortably. As the owner explains, "the acoustics have completely changed daily life for us." By the following Monday, "there was no more reverberation, no more echoes, and we could finally hear each other speaking. It was an incredible comfort."

Today, O'Bourpif demonstrates how acoustic design can contribute to both employee wellbeing and customer satisfaction. Looking back after years of working in a noisy environment, the owner considers acoustic comfort an essential investment: "Having lived with excessive noise for around ten years, I truly believe it is essential, both for us and for our customers."
