Located in the heart of Madrid, the new Sportrade sports centre was designed to offer bright, flexible spaces for a wide range of activities – including fitness, group classes, and a basement-level swimming pool hall. With sports areas generating high sound levels and residential buildings nearby, achieving excellent acoustic performance was essential.

To maintain the architect’s vision of exposed timber and concrete structures, acoustic solutions had to be fully integrated into the design. In the activity rooms, ceiling islands complemented wall and floor treatments, reducing noise while keeping the timber structure visible.

The pool hall posed the greatest challenge due to its height, hard surfaces and humid environment. Here, a system of moisture-resistant vertical baffles was installed at 50 cm intervals, aligned with the concrete beams. This created an elegant virtual ceiling that preserved the generous height, kept services concealed, and delivered effective reverberation control.

By incorporating acoustics from the earliest design stages, the project achieved excellent comfort from day one. Users experience a calm, pleasant environment – especially in the pool area, where natural and artificial lighting combine with the acoustic treatment to create a welcoming space.

The final result meets all expectations: a modern, visually open sports centre with high acoustic comfort throughout.
