Comprehensive renovation with functionality at its core

The municipal indoor swimming pool in Žiar nad Hronom has undergone a comprehensive €5 million renovation, transforming it into a modern centre for sport and relaxation.

The project included the complete replacement of the building envelope, façade and roof insulation, as well as new windows, doors, and a modern ventilation system. Inside, the facility now features a stainless-steel swimming pool, children’s pools, and dedicated spaces for mothers with young children, all contributing to a refreshed and inviting atmosphere.

Beyond comfort and functionality, a key objective was to reduce the building’s energy consumption – a goal successfully achieved. The local authority expects energy savings of up to 60%.

Acoustics as an element of comfort

Swimming pools are environments dominated by hard, reflective surfaces such as stainless steel and ceramic tiles, which can amplify sound and extend reverberation times, creating an uncomfortable acoustic experience.

To address this, the Ecophon Focus™ E ceiling solution was installed. This suspended ceiling, with its subtle shadow effect, provides excellent acoustic performance while being easy to maintain. With Class A sound absorption, it significantly reduces noise levels, improving comfort for athletes, coaches, and families alike. The reduced reverberation time also enhances safety and overall wellbeing.

A place for sport, relaxation, and community

The renovated swimming pool has become much more than a sports facility –it is now a welcoming community space for people of all ages. The refreshed interior, new relaxation areas, improved energy efficiency, and high-quality acoustic design together create an inviting environment that supports both wellbeing and togetherness.
