Historic architecture with a new sound environment

In the heart of central Malmö, by Skeppsbron and the canal, Malmö Börshus has been given a new lease of life. The historic building, dating back to 1879, has been transformed from a customs and packing house into a modern destination for work, dining and social interaction.

The renovation began in 2023 and has been carried out with great respect for the building’s cultural and historical value. The ambition has been to preserve its character while creating environments that meet today’s needs for flexibility, sustainability and indoor comfort.

Malmö Börshus is certified according to Miljöbyggnad Silver by the Sweden Green Building Council, confirming high standards in energy performance, indoor environment and material choices.

On 30 January 2026, the renewed Malmö Börshus officially reopened. A new chapter began, where history, architecture and modern functionality come together.

At the centre of the building is a large atrium with a glass roof, where daylight fills the space and creates a natural meeting point for gatherings, events and everyday interactions. In an environment defined by generous volumes and hard surfaces, acoustics play a key role in how the space is experienced and used.

Acoustics that support the whole

When a historic building is given a new purpose, acoustics need to support the overall experience without taking over the architectural expression. The solutions should integrate with the architecture, contribute to comfort and create the right conditions for conversation, focus and connection.

In the atrium, Ecophon Fade™ ONE Smooth acoustic plaster provides discreet sound absorption that blends into the architecture. The solution helps reduce reverberation in the open space and supports a more balanced sound environment.

In the conference rooms, acoustic solutions have been adapted to the specific needs of each space. Ecophon Fade™ ONE Smooth and Ecophon Master™ E contribute to good speech clarity and overall comfort. In the largest conference room, Master E in the Dark Diamond colour adds a more distinctive visual expression. Across the office areas, acoustic absorbers help create a calmer sound environment that supports concentration.

In the Como restaurant, the sound environment forms part of the overall experience. Here, Ecophon Focus™ E is combined with Ecophon Solo™ Baffle in Ruby Rock, contributing both acoustic function and a strong visual identity. The result is a setting where conversations flow naturally and guests can stay longer in comfort.

Spaces designed for people

Malmö Börshus remains a building with a strong sense of history, while today offering spaces designed for people on the move. It is a place to work, meet, dine and pause – where expression and function are closely connected.

With acoustic solutions from Ecophon, the sound environment becomes an integrated part of the whole. From the atrium and conference rooms to offices and the Como restaurant, the acoustics contribute to spaces that are not only visually appealing, but also comfortable to spend time in.
